This week has had a ton of environmental news that we couldn’t possibly include in this post for the sake of brevity. Because of that, we have decided to split the news into three parts. The first will discuss news concerning Interior Secretary Zinke, the second concerning new lawsuits, and the new tariff on foreign solar panels. As you may notice from the last 2 Sunday posts, we include many news concerning the federal government that are subject to controversy and often inject our own opinions.

Part of Part 2 of Sunday News will be about the tariffs Trump suddenly put on imported solar panels and washing machines. According the US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, the Trump Administration decided that foreign imports of these products were hurting the domestic market. Trump approved 20% tariff on the first 1.2 million washers and 50% on the rest and 30% tariff on imported solar panels. While domestic manufacturers (mostly Suniva and Solar World) support this move, installers oppose them because that would mean increased costs for customers to install new solar panel. Although this is Trump keeping his “America First” promise, if that’s something you support, but this move makes it more expensive for customers to buy solar panels and washing machines.
