One claim people who do not believe in climate change use is that there is 1) still ice in the poles and other places, and 2) Antarctic sea ice has expanded to some extent. However, a new record from the Cryospheric Sciences Laboratory found that sea ice from both poles were at lowest since 1979, especially surprising as sea ice in Antarctica has grown and October and November are times when the Arctic gains the most ice. One cause was that less ice in the summer resulted in more sun heating water in the positive feedback loop.

As it is known, the moon is important in controlling the tides on earth, and this week's super moon (supposedly looking bigger and brighter though not really) was no difference. According to astronomer Phil Plait, the effect of tides depends on the distance of the Moon from the Earth cubed, so the Moon's effects, 10% closer on Monday that usual, are 1.1^3=1.33 or 30% greater than at regular times. Since the Moon was also a full moon, the effects were even greater.
