Don't get us wrong. We know the value of the economy. But which one will collapse the other if it collapses? Yes, the ecosystem. Nature cares nothing about economies. If ecosystems were to collapse, so would we, because the trees would either be extinct or it would lack the animals that were necessary for spreading seeds.

At Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, there has been a recent court ruling which shall hopefully serve to better protect Piping Plovers (and other beach creatures, especially sea turtles, whose nests often get crushed). The new law is one that will limit off-road driving on this beach, which commonly crushes eggs, scares away wildlife, or confuses recently hatched turtles. So far, under the recent law, there have been minimal drops in tourism (so nobody can whine about how much money is being lost), and this has been a victory for conservation groups including the Audubon Society of the Defenders of Wildlife.
